White Lies started when the members of a music group called “Fear of Flying”, decided to create a new band from the beginning, in Earling, West London, in 2007. Fellow villagers Charles Cave (bass guitar) and Jack Lawrence-Brown (drums), along with Harry McVeigh (vocals, guitar), began performing live and their unreleased song “Death”, started to gather fame. They had a post-punk music style, with indie rock characteristics.
After touring in the UK, including a support act to dEUs and several festivals, the group’s first album named “To Lose My Life…” came out in the beginning of 2009, reaching no. 1 on the UK album charts, with the homonymous song and “Farewell to the Fairground” to separate. They had started becoming famous and took part in various live events and TV shows, not only in the UK but also in American shows like “Late Show with David Letterman” e.t.c. They won a “Q Award” for “Best New Band” and they also supported Snow Patrol, while later they followed their first worldwide tour, including many famous live fests such as Rock Werchter, Coachella, Lollapalooza and other.
“Ritual” was the group’s second album that came out in January of 2011 and peaked at no. 3 on the UK charts. It was followed by the also successful “Big TV” in the summer of 2013, while the group continued with a big number of live appearances in Europe and North America, releasing a supporting EP, named “Small TV”. Their fourth album “Friends” came out in 2016, along with a box set with extra material, but it didn't manage to enter at the top 10 of the album chart in the UK (no. 11). White Lies’ recent album is “Five”, that came out in the 1st of February 2019, including the singles “Time to Give”, “Believe It” and “Tokyo”.
