Van Morrison tickets & concert schedule

Van Morrison was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in 1945 and his first musical influences were R&B, soul and blues artists such as Ray Charles and Solomon Burke, while he used to listen to his father’s records that included various music genres by great musicians. His full name is George Ivan Morrison (he became a “Sir” in 2015) and he formed his first band, after having learned to play the guitar, in 1957. You can’t categorize him in a certain genre, since his range includes from R&B, rock, blues, folk, soul, to jazz, country and other music styles, while he plays a lot of instruments.

Following several jobs, he used to play with the band “The Monarchs” in European countries until their dissolution in 1963. He began attracting attention with the group “Them” between 1964 and 1966, with which he recorded two studio albums and made his first live appearances in the USA, where they performed even next to the “Doors”. After the group’s break up, Van Morrison’s first solo album was released in 1967, under the name “Blowin’ Your Mind!”. It contained his first hit, the timeless song “Brown Eyed Girl” which peaked at no. 10 in the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. His second album was “Astral Weeks” in November of 1968 and although it didn’t get a high place in the charts, it is regarded as one of his best.

Morrison has recorded another 38 studio albums until 2018, while eight of them have entered the top 5 on the UK Albums Chart, four of them during the 90’s . 2005’s “Magic Time” has reached the highest position (no. 3) until his “Still on Top - The Greatest Hits” compilation album in 2007, which peaked at the second place. Among his hits are the songs “Wild Night”, “Someone Like You”, “Whenever God Shines His Light”, “Have I Told You Lately”, “Real Real Gone” and many more, along with various collaborations and covers. His discography includes 6 live albums, from which the 1974’s “It's Too Late to Stop Now”, despite the low places in the charts, is regarded one of his best, while 1994’s “A Night in San Francisco” reached no. 8 on UK chart. Also, the compilation albums “The Best of Van Morrison” (1990) and “Van Morrison at the Movies – Soundtrack Hits” (2007) separate, with the first having become four times platinum in the USA, while one of his various collaborations brought the successful jazz album “Tell Me Something: The Songs of Mose Allison” in 1996.

Morrison has taken part in many great live events around the world, his songs have been used in a lot of movies, while he has won two Grammys, four Grammy Hall of Fame Awards and has entered in both “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” and “Songwriters Hall of Fame”, in 1993 and 2003 respectively.
