Twenty One Pilots were created by Tyler Joseph (vocals e.t.c.) and his schoolmate Nicholas Tomas (guitar, bass, keyboards), who had begun writing songs together, along with Chris Salih (drums), in Columbus, Ohio, in 2009. They started to perform live in various venues around that area and their music style was between, alternative hip hop and electropop, with influences from a lot of other genres, like indie pop, rap-rock e.t.c.

Their homonymous first album came out in the end of 2009, with fourteen songs and later, Joseph and Salih with another drummer named Josh Dun, took part in a project of an Ohio’s church, writing a few songs. After Thomas and Salih left the group in 2011, Dun joined Joseph and Twenty One Pilots continued as a duo. With the help of Thomas and Salih, they released “Regional at Best”, the group’s second album in the summer of 2011. The duo started writing new songs and touring in the USA.

The next year, Pilots made a new contract and after releasing an EP, they toured again next to ”Walk the Moon” and “Neon Trees”. Their next album named “Vessel” came out in early 2013, containing five remastered songs of “Regional at Best”. They followed Fall Out Boy in their tour and appeared in several live shows and events, including the MTV Movie Awards, while they took part in Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo and other fests.

2015's “Blurryface” was the group’s next album, which became their first that entered at the top of the US album charts, including the top 5 hits “Stressed Out” and “Ride”. Two worldwide tours followed, while the group wrote the successful song “Heathens” for the soundtrack of “Suicide Squad” and continued the live appearances and the collaborations. In 2017, Pilots won the “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” Grammy Award for “Stressed Out” and they returned to the studio, to deal with their fifth album. “Trench” came out in October of 2018, also entering at the top of the American charts. Among its hits are the songs “Jumpsuit”, “My Blood” and “Nico and the Niners”.
