The Doobie Brothers tickets & concert schedule

The Doobie Brothers is a famous old American rock group, which history started in 1970 when Tom Johnston (vocals, guitar) along with John Hartman (drums) found Patrick Simmons (vocals, guitar) and Dave Shogren (bass). They began performing in San Jose and later they expanded in Northern California.

The album “The Doobie Brothers” came out in April 1971 and after that, the group followed its first tour. They hired a second drummer (Michael Hossack) but during the recording of their second album Shogren left the group and Tiran Porter took his place. The second album “Toulouse Street” came out in the summer of 1972. It contained the hit “Listen to the Music” which peaked at no. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album became platinum and was followed by 1973’s “The Captain and Me”, which reached the seventh position on the Pop Album charts and became three times platinum, including the hits “Long Train Runnin'” and “China Grove”.

Although there were a lot of changes to the group’s formation, the Doobie Brothers released another six successful albums in a row, starting from 1974’s “What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits” and next year's “Stampede", both peaking at no. 4 on the US charts, with songs like “Black Water” and their version of “Take Me in Your Arms (Rock Me a Little While)” to separate. The group’s most successful album is 1978’s “Minute by Minute” which topped the US Pop Albums chart. It became three times platinum and included the top hit “What a Fool Believes” which won two Grammy Awards. In 1975, Michael McDonald (keyboards, vocals) joined the group, due to Tom Johnston continuous health problems (he returned in 1987), while Hartman left the group in 1979 (he returned for five years only in 1987).

After a series of live appearances and more changes to the line-up, the Doobie Brothers went to a hiatus in 1982. They returned in 1987 and released two albums, 1989’s “Cycles” (no. 17 on the Billboard 200) and “Brotherhood” two years later. In the following years, they continued touring and they released another three studio albums, until 2014’s “Southbound”.

The Doobie Brothers’ current line-up consists of Johnston, Simmons and multi-instrumentalist John McFee. Their sound has changed through the years, including rock and soft rock style, with pop and blue-eyed soul elements, while their last two albums are regarded as country rock records.
