The Beach Boys tickets & concert schedule

The Beach Boys are one of the longest active bands in the rock history and the band which made popular the surf music especially during the 60’s. The band’s sound varied among the decades’ from surf rock to progressive pop, including various other genres. The band was created in 1961 in Hawthorne, California, by brothers Brian, Carl and Dennis Wilson, along with their cousin Mike Love and Brian’s schoolmate Al Jardine. All of The Beach Boys members shared the vocals, while they used to play several instruments.

Their first songs were “Surfin’” and “Surfin’ Safari” and when they signed their first contract the band began to perform in public. Jardine left the band for a year to finish his studies and David Marks took his place. Their first album “Surfin’ Safari” included the synonymous single, along with “Surfin’” and the band’s first big success came with the release of the song “Surfin’ U.S.A.” in 1963, which peaked at no. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became one of their signature songs. It was followed by the synonymous album, which entered at no. 2 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart, their higher chart position along with the album “Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!) of 1965 and it was the beginning of their main period of success.

From 1963 until 1966, The Beach Boys recorded eight studio albums and one live, while only the “Shut Down Volume 2” of 1964 didn’t manage to enter the top 10 on the USA chart. It is the band’s first after Marks left the band. Also, Bruce Johnston joined the band in 1965, as a new member. The albums “Little Deuce Coupe” and “Pet Sounds” became platinum and some the hits of that period were “Surfer Girl”, “When I Grow Up (To Be a Man)”, “Dance, Dance, Dance”, “Fun, Fun, Fun”, “Why Do Fools Fall in Love”, “I Get Around”, “Help Me, Rhonda”, “California Girls” and many more.

Although the band’s twelfth album “Smiley Smile” contained one of their most successful hits, the song “Good Vibrations”, it was the beginning of a series of albums that didn’t enter neither at the top 20 on the USA album chart, until the release of “15 Big Ones” in 1976. Nevertheless, “Smiley Smile” along with “Wild Honey” and “20/20” managed to enter the top 10 on the UK album chart. For almost a decade, Brian Wilson stopped being the main composer, but this changed with the album “15 Big Ones” which contained the hits “Rock and Roll Music” and “Just Once in My Life”.

Until 2000 and the band’s dissolution, The Beach Boys recorded eight more studio albums without gaining remarkable success. In the meantime, Dennis Wilson tragically died by drowning in December of 1983, while his brother Carl passed away in 1998 by cancer. The band returned in 2011 and after several live appearances, they released next year the successful album “That’s Why God Made the Radio”, which entered at the top 5 of the chart.

The numerous discography of The Beach Boys apart from the studio records includes many live and compilation albums, various sessions and other projects, while they have taken part in a few musicals and documentaries.
