Sting tickets & concert schedule

Sting was born in 1951 in Wallsend, in North East England. His real name is Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner and he became known from the English band the Police. After he finished secondary school, he used to attend to live shows of Cream or Manfred Mann in various clubs. He graduated from Northumbria University and became a teacher, following the profession for a couple of years.

Sting liked to play jazz especially during the weekends, as part of several music groups and he obtained his nick from the colors of a sweater he used to wear. In 1977 he went to London where he formed the Police with Copeland and Padovani. The group gained enormous success, selling many records and winning several music awards, including six Grammys. He left the group in 1984 and reunited with the rest members in 1986 before the group's dissolution.

Sting's first solo album named “The Dream of the Blue Turtles” came out in 1985. It reached the third and second position on the UK and the US album charts respectively, including the hit “If You Love Somebody Set Them Free” and became three times platinum in the USA (two in the UK). He followed a series of live performances and collaborations with artists like Phil Collins, while he played himself in the documentary “Bring On the Night”, which won two Grammys later. His second album was “...Nothing Like the Sun”, which topped the UK album charts. Among its hits were the songs “Englishman in New York”, “We’ll Be Together” and “Fragile”.

He took part in various projects, while the next decade his fame was increased, with the release of another four studio albums. 1991’s “The Soul Cages” topped the UK charts and reached no. 2 on the US album charts, his highest ever, like 1993’s “Ten Summoner's Tales” (no. 2 on the UK album charts). The next two were 1996’s “Mercury Falling” and 1999’s “Brand New Day”. Some of Sting’s most characteristic songs were “All This Time”, “It’s Probably Me” (with Eric Clapton, David Sanborn and Michael Kamen), “Shape of My Heart”, “Desert Rose” (a duet with singer Cheb Mami) and others.

In the following years, Sting released another seven studio albums, with 2003’s “Sacred Love” to separate, while he worked with artists such as Craig David and Sheryl Crow. He has received plenty of music awards, while he entered at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003, as a member of the Police. Sting has experimented with various music styles and he has taken part in many movies from 1979.
