Snow Patrol tickets & concert schedule

Snow Patrol started as an alternative rock student group from the University of Dundee, in 1994, under the name Shrug, by Northern Irish Gary Lightbody (vocals, guitar), Mark McClelland (bass) and Michael Morrison (drums). They changed the name to PolarBear two years later and after Morrison left the group, they released their first EP, named “Starfighter Pilot” in the summer of 1997. They changed their name for a second time because it was being used by an American band and they recruited drummer Jonny Quinn.

After a contract with Jeepster Records, an indie and alternative label, they recorded their first album “Songs for Polarbears” which came out in late August of 1998. The group moved to Glasgow and their second album “When It's All Over We Still Have to Clear Up”, was released in 2001. The group’s next period passed by looking for a new label and in the meantime they recorded the song “Run” which became their first success, reaching number one on the UK chart. With the addition of Nathan Connolly (guitar), their third album named “Final Straw”, came out in 2003 and entered at the third place on the Official Albums Chart in the UK, including apart from “Run”, the songs “Spitting Games” and “Chocolate”. Snow Patrol began gaining fame and after supporting U2 in their European tour, they continue with the “Final Straw Tour”.

In 2005, McClelland left the group and Paul Wilson took his place, while Tom Simpson (keyboards) also joined the formation. Their next album was “Eyes Open” that came out in 2006 and became their first topping the charts on the UK. It contains the hits “You’re All I Have” and “Chasing Cars”, which is the group’s best-selling single. The latest was used also in the TV-series “Grey’s Anatomy” and won a nomination in the Grammy Awards of 2006. The album topped the sales in the UK in the same year and became platinum in the USA. The group continued with the release of “A Hundred Million Suns” in 2008 and with an international tour, including opening acts for Coldplay and U2.

After a compilation album, the group returned to the studio for their next album “Fallen Empires” that came out in November of 2011. It was their fourth album in a row entering the top 5 in the UK charts and contained the hit “Called Out in the Dark”. It was followed by “Greatest Hits” in 2013 and by “Wildness” later, their seventh studio album that came out in May of 2018, reaching the second place in the UK. In the meantime, Johnny McDaid had become the new member of the group during the recording of “Fallen Empires”, while Simpson left in 2013.
