Shawn Mendes was in Toronto, Ontario in 1998 and grew up in Pickering. His full name is Shawn Peter Raul Mendes and when he was in high school, he became a member of a musical group, while he followed his first acting lessons.

Mendes was very active on YouTube and after learning how to play guitar, he began uploading covers of other popular artists such as Justin Bieber. He started receiving many views and in the summer of 2014, he had also many followers. He attracted the attention of managers and after winning a music contest in YouTube by covering the song “Say Something” of the duo “A Great Big World”, he made his first contract.

Mendes was the youngest artist that his song “Life of the Party” from his 2014's “The Shawn Mendes EP”, entered at the top 25 of the US charts (the album also reached the top five of the album charts). After his first success, he followed Austin Mahone’s tour as a support artist. His debut album named “Handwritten” came out in 2015 and entered at the top of the USA album chart. It includes the hit “Stitches” which topped the UK chart (no. 4 in the USA). He appeared in several live shows in order to promote the album, including Taylor Swift’s tour and later he wrote the song “Believe” for the TV movie “Descendants” and he worked with Camila Cabello for the release of “I Know What You Did Last Summer”.

In the beginning of 2016, Mendes had his first role in the TV series “The 100” and later he followed his second worldwide tour. His second album “Illuminate” came out in 2016. It is an album with pop, rock and blues elements which also reached the first place on the US charts (and in other countries), with the hits “There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back” and “Treat You Better” to separate. Mendes has the record of being the first musician under 20 to have three no. 1 songs in two US charts. “Shawn Mendes”, his third album, was released in 2018 and became his third in a row topping the charts. It contains the song “In My Blood” and the collaboration with Khalid in “Youth”. Mendes continued touring and he also appeared in a lot of fests and TV shows.
