Rod Stewart is one of the most successful English rock stars in his generation. He was born outside London in 1945 by Scottish father and English mother. His full name is Roderick David Stewart and when he was young, he used to play football. He was a fan of singer Al Jolson and he obtained his first guitar in 1959. He left school at the age of fifteen and later he tried to follow a football career.

Stewart started to listen to various genres, like R&B and soul, while during his huge career, he joined several music groups, but only with two of them managed to gain success. The first was “The Jeff Beck Group” which was formed in 1967, releasing two successful albums, while the second was “Faces”, where he stayed until their dissolve in 1975. This group recorded four albums, with the two latest being their more successful.

Stewart’s first album as a solo artist was “An Old Raincoat Won't Ever Let You Down” in November of 1969 and it was followed by the cover album “Gasoline Alley” and “Every Picture Tells a Story”. The latest was his first big success, topping at the UK and USA charts. The album is a combination of cover songs and new releases and is characterized by its various sound styles, with rock, folk, blues and country elements. Among its hits are “Mandolin Wind”, “Maggie May” (no. 1 on the charts), one of Stewart’s most famous songs, the cover Tim Hardin’s “Reason to Believe” and other.
