Phil Collins was born in Chiswick, west London, in 1951 and from a very young age, he began playing the drums. His full name is Philip David Charles Collins and when he became fourteen, he joined Barbara Speake Stage School. The Beatles (especially Ringo Starr), the English band "The Action" and the jazz drummer Buddy Rich were among his big influences.

His first band was "Flaming Youth". After their dissolve, he took part in George Harrison's song "Art of Dying" and in 1970 he joined Genesis. With Genesis, Collins would know great success, not only as a drummer but also as their lead vocalist from 1975. He took part in 12 studio records, 5 live albums and several other projects, he toured with the band in many countries and he received a Grammy and an American Music Award.

Collin's first solo album "Face Value", came out in 1981 and is characterized by its art rock and R&B music elements. It includes "In the Air Tonight", one of his signature songs and "Tomorrow Never Knows", reaching the top in the UK charts and no. 7 in the USA. His second album "Hello, I Must Be Going!" came out in 1982 and contains the hits "I Don't Care Anymore" and "You Can't Hurry Love" (a cover of The Supremes' song). He later wrote "Against All Odds" that came out with the synonymous movie in 1984 and became his first no. 1 on the USA charts.

Collins collaborated with Philip Bailey in his album "Chinese Wall" which includes the top hit "Easy Lover" and later, "No Jacket Required", his third and most successful album was released in 1985. It entered the top in ten countries charts and it contains the top hits "Sussudio" and "One More Night", along with "Don't Lose My Number". In 1988, he took part in the movie "Buster" (he wrote also songs for the soundtrack, including "Two Hearts") and his next album "...But Seriously", came out in 1989. The album entered at the top of the charts in more than 10 countries, with the songs "Do You Remember?", "Something Happened on the Way to Heaven", "I Wish It Would Rain Down" and "Another Day in Paradise" to separate. The latest won the "Record of the Year" Grammy Award in 1991.

His sixth solo album "Dance into the Light" came out in of 1996. He reunited with Genesis in 1999 (for about one year) and he worked in the soundtrack of Disney's animated movie "Tarzan" winning an Academy Award for "You'll Be in My Heart", one year later. Although he had lost part of his hearing from one ear because of a virus, he continued the live appearances. "Testify", was his next album that came out in 2002.

In the following years, Collins followed the "First Final Farewell Tour", reunited for a second time with Genesis for a tour, he released "Going Back", his eighth album which includes covers from 60's and entered at the top of the albums chart in the UK. In 2015, Collins recorded again all his solo albums with extra material and after this began the "Not Dead Yet Tour". As a member of Genesis, he entered at the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" in 2010. Collins has received numerous awards, he has cooperated with many great artists and has also played in various movies.
