Paul McCartney is one of the most important and music artists in the history of rock, while he has also experimented with various different genres except rock, such as pop, electronic and classical music. His full name is James Paul McCartney and he was born in Liverpool, England in 1942. His first band was John Lennon’s “The Quarrymen”, but he became popular with the Beatles, which became one the best and most influential rock bands in the world. With Beatles McCartney recorded numerous albums, music videos and other projects and won many music awards.

McCartney began learning piano from a young age and he obtained his first guitar when he became fourteen. He began writing his first songs, being influenced by artists like “Little Richard. When the Beatles dissolved, he released his homonymous album in 1970, which reached no. 2 on the UK Albums Chart and became no. 1 in the USA, with the song “Maybe I’m Amazed” to separate. It was followed by “Ram” one year later, which this time topped the UK chart and reached no. 2 on the US Billboard 200, including the top hit in the USA, “Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey”.

McCartney along with his wife Linda, Denny Seiwell (drums) and Denny Laine (guitar) created “Wings”, a band with which he released several albums, while they won six Grammy Awards. His second solo album named “McCartney II” came out in 1980, before the Wings’ dissolution. It reached the top of the UK chart and contained the hit “Coming Up” (no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100). McCartney later worked with Stevie Wonder on “Ebony and Ivory”, a song that became no. 1 in a lot of countries, and he also cooperated with Michael Jackson on “The Girl Is Mine” and “Say Say Say”.

McCartney took part in many projects and collaborations during 80’s and he toured around the world. His most successful albums in that decade were 1982’s “Tug of War”, which is the only album from his solo career that reached the top of the charts in both UK and USA and 1989’s “Flowers in the Dirt”. During the 90’s, McCartney released another three successful studio albums and four live albums while he got involved for the first time with classical music. He dealt also with electronic music, working with other bands, artists and DJs. He appeared in many live and events, such as the NFL’s Super Bowl, the Live 8 and more. In the following years, he recorded three successful studio albums from 2012 to 2018, while he performed live in “Diamond Jubilee Concert”, in the 2012 Olympic Games, in the “12-12-12: The Concert for Sandy Relief”, in the 57th Grammy Awards next to Rihanna, and in many other live shows.

McCartney’s numerous discography includes also many collaborations and various other projects, while he has taken part in many documentaries, films, TV shows, benefit concerts e.t.c. Apart from the awards he has received as a member of the Beatles and the Wings, he has also received 6 Grammys during his solo career, (he has also been honored two times with the “Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award”, the one with Beatles), 3 BRIT Awards and a Classic Brit Award and many more. He has entered two times the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” and in 1997 he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II.
