Nile Rodgers tickets & concert schedule

Nile Rodgers was born in New York City, in 1952, when her mother was only fourteen and he grew up seeing his father (who died in 1970) very little times. His full name is Nile Gregory Rodgers Jr. When he was thirteen he became a drug user, because his mother and her new husband were drug addicts. The first music organs he learned to play were flute and clarinet, while later he learned to play the guitar and he joined several bands with various genres.

Along with Bernard Edwards (bass), they created "The Big Apple Band" and started as the back-up duo of the R&B group, New York City. After the band's split due to the unsuccessful two first albums, the members reunited and along with Tony Thompson (drums), they began performing live. The duo had to change their name because there was another band with the same name, so when they reunited they chose "Chic". Their style was a mix of disco, funk, soul and elements of jazz and R&B and their first homonymous album came out in November of 1977. The band recorded six albums one each year, until their dissolution in 1983, due to the "anti-disco" reaction of that period, while Rodgers continued being addicted to drugs. They collaborated with many great artists at the studio or in live performances and they reunited in 1992. In the meantime, Edwards died of pneumonia in 1996 and Chic kept forward with other musicians. The band's ninth studio album, more than 26 years after their previous. A new one is being expected during 2019.

Rodgers all these years, apart from his work with Chic, he has released four solo albums. The first was the " Adventures in the Land of the Good Groove" in 1983, but it wasn't a big success. It was followed by "B-Movie Matinee" in the summer of 1985 and "Outloud" in 1987, the latest along with Felicia Collins and Philippe Saisse. He has collaborated with many great artists. Some of his works as a producer are David Bowie's album "Let's Dance", Madonna's "Like a Virgin" and live album "Arena" by Duran Duran (he also remixed their hit "The Reflex") as well as the hits "Original Sin" by INXS and many more. He has also performed live with artists such as Madonna, Cyndi Loper and many other, while he has also worked with Mick Jagger, Diana Ross, Eric Clapton and numerous other musicians and groups.

One year after Edward's death, Rodgers returned to Japan where his bandmate had died and released the live album "Live at the Budokan" which contains his last concert next to Edward with Chic. He has also taken part in soundtracks, documentaries, TV shows and movies, he has written his autobiography and he had won several awards and recognitions.
