Metric tickets & concert schedule

Metric were created, when singer Emily Haines and guitarist James Shaw, who had met in 1997, in Toronto, formed a duo under the name Mainstream in 1998. After the release of their synonymous EP, they changed their name to Metric and along with Chris Seligman who had met Shaw in a Boston music school in the USA, went to Brooklyn, New York. They added later Joules Scott-Key to the line-up (drums).

The band began recording their first album in the beginning of 2001. It was an indie rock and new wave album but was released almost six years later. In the meantime, one more EP with five songs came out in that year, under the name "Static Anonymity" and they also found two touring members for their live performances. In late 2002 Joshua Winstead (bass) became the band's new member.

Their first album release was "Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?" in 2003. They toured around L.A. while the album became gold in Canada. One of their songs, "Dead Disco" was featured in the movie "Clean" in 2004. The band's second album "Live It Out" came out in September of 2005, it became two times platinum in Canada and it was followed by a tour in the USA, including a support act for The Rolling Stones". They took part in UK fests and they also toured around Europe and in other countries such as Mexico, Brazil and Japan.

After the release of their first recording named "Grow Up and Blow Away" in 2007, which included a few songs from "Static Anonymity", the band recorded more songs and continued touring while they were finishing their next album, "Fantasies". It came out in April of 2009 and became their best album in sales. The song "Gold Guns Girls" was remixed by Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park and was included later in their album "Music for Relief", which was dedicated to the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami victims.

After one more EP and several live performances, the band won two Juno Awards in the 2010 ceremony in Canada. They followed Muse on "The Resistance Tour" during 2010 and in 2012, Metric released their fifth album, "Synthetica" which gained another three Juno Awards in the same year. It was followed by "Pagans in Vegas" in 2015. After a tour with Imagine Dragons that took part in the summer of the same year, they continue performing in Europe and South USA, while the next Spring, they toured next to Death Cab for Cutie.

The band separated for a short time, where Haines and Shaw dealt with other projects and returned with the concert film "Dreams So Real", which was connected with the "Lights on the Horizon" tour. Their next album named "Art of Doubt" came out in 2018 and is described as a more acoustic record.
