MARINA is a Welsh singer and musician who was born in 1985 in the town of Brynmawr, in South Wales. Her real name is Marina Lambrini Diamandis and she has also Greek ancestry by her father. She grew up in Abergavenny and when she became sixteen she went to Greece where she learned the language and began singing local folk songs. After she spent a period of studying in Greece, she returned to her country and later she went to live in the West Midlands of England.

Diamantis went to London and began music lessons in order to find an opportunity to start a career. She attended a lot of auditions without success and after she created the professional name Marina and the Diamonds, she abandoned the auditions and began composing music. She released her first work in social media and she signed her first contract in 2008. Diamanti’s first EP was 2009’s “The Crown Jewels EP” which was followed by a live one. She won a nomination for the BRIT awards of 2010 and her first album came out in February of that year, under the name “The Family Jewels”. It reached no. 5 on the UK Albums Chart, with the songs “I Am Not a Robot and “Hollywood” to separate, and became Gold in the UK. A few months later Diamantis won an MTV Europe Music Award and she started her first international tour, while she opened for Katy Perry in her summer tour in 2011.

Her second album “Electra Heart” came out in 2012 and topped the UK album charts. It became gold in both the UK and the USA, including the hit “Primadonna”. She continued touring and in 2014 she returned to the studio for her third album “Froot”, which came out in the Spring of 2015. It peaked at no. 10 on the UK Albums Chart but it reached no. 8 in the USA. Diamantis, after a series of live performances in America and Europe between 2015 and 2016, she began writing music for her next album, while she changed her stage name to “MARINA” in 2018.

MARINA’s fourth album named “Love Fear” came out in April of 2019, including the collaboration with Clean Bandit in “Baby” and reached the fifth position in the UK. She is regarded as a pop singer, with elements of dance, new wave and other pop genres.
