Julia Michaels grew up in Santa Clarita and started to sing when she was twelve. Her real name is Julia Carin Cavazos and she was born in Davenport, Iowa, in 1993. She wrote her first song along with Joleen Belle, for the theme of a TV-series. In the age of 19, she collaborated with Lindy Robbins in writing two songs. Demi's Lovato "Fire Starter" and Fifth Harmony's "Miss Movin' On".
She used to write her own songs when she was 16 and her influences are artists such as Fiona Apple, Laura Marling, Lisa Mitchell and more, but also Paramore, The Fray and other bands. Her first single was "Issues" that came out in early 2017, a song that many artists wanted for themselves. It entered at the top 10 of the charts in a lot of countries, including the UK, Australia and France, while it peaked at no. 11 in the USA.
Michael's first EP, named "Nervous System", which is regarded as a pop record, came out in July of 2018 and includes apart from "Issues", six more new songs. Her first appearances as a support artist were during "Illuminate World Tour", the second tour in Shawn Mende's career. She won two nominations at the 60th Grammy Awards, one in the category of "Song of the Year" for "Issues" and one for "Best New Artist".
She continued the collaborations with artists such as Trippie Redd, while her recent EP, "Inner Monologue Part 1", came out in the beginning of 2019. It contains six new songs, the two are collaborations with Selena Gomez and Niall Horan. In the meantime, she has also toured opening for Maroon 5 and Keith Urban, while she has followed Pink in her "Beautiful Trauma World Tour", that will be continued in the 1st of March.
