CAKE tickets & concert schedule

Cake were created in 1991 in Sacramento, California when John McCrea (vocals, acoustic guitar, piano e.t.c.) decided to form a new band. He was joined by Greg Brown (guitar), Frank French (drums), Vince DiFiore (trumpet, keyboards e.t.c) and Shon Meckfessel (bass). Gabe Nelson took Meckfessel’s place who followed his studies and the group began touring in the San Francisco area.

Cake’s first album was “Motorcade of Generosity” in 1994. After they made a new contract, Nelson along with French left the group. Victor Damiani and drummer Todd Roper took their paces and Cake recorded their second album named “Fashion Nugget”, which came out in September of 1996. The album which became platinum later contained the hits “The Distance”, the cover in Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” and “Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps”, the band’s version to the song “Quizás, Quizás, Quizás”. Cake toured first in the USA and then supported Counting Crows in the UK, while they also performed in Japan later.

In 1997, Brown and Damiani left the group and were replaced by guitarist Xan McCurdy and Nelson who returned. Cake’s third album “Prolonging the Magic” came out in October of 1998. It became platinum again, reaching no. 33 on the US album charts. Cake made a new contract with a bigger label and began recording their next album, but when it finished, Roper left the group. Pete McNeal became the new drummer and “Comfort Eagle” came out in 2001, peaking at no.13 on the US album charts. A series of live appearances followed, in the US, Canada and Europe. McNeal left the group in 2004 and Paulo Baldi took his place. The album “Pressure Chief” came out in 2004 and peaked at no. 17 on the charts.

In the following years, Cake continued touring while they created their own label in 2007. Almost three years later, the band recorded its next album named “Showroom of Compassion”, which came out in the beginning of 2011. It entered at the top of the album charts, including the song “Sick of You”. After a couple of new changes to the group’s formation, Roper returned as the drummer and Daniel McCallum became the new bassist in 2016. Cake’s upcoming new album in 2019 is named “Age of Aquarius”. Their music style is something between alternative rock and experimental rock, with elements of indie, funk and pop rock, as well as and other music genres.
