Blondie tickets & concert schedule

Blondie were created in 1974, in New York City, when Debbie Harry (vocals, guitar) along with Chris Stein (guitar, bass), decided to form a new rock band. Fred Smith (bass) and Billy O’Connor completed the formation but left in 1975, while Clem Burke became the group’s drummer and Gary Valentine the new bassist. Jimmy Destri (keyboards) joined them later and Blondie’s first homonymous album came out in late 1976.

After Valentine left the group in 1977, Frank Infante took his place and their second album “Plastic Letters” came out in 1978. Blondie’s music style was new wave, with pop rock and punk rock elements. With Nigel Harrison as a new member (bass), the album “Parallel Lines” came out in September of that year and is Blondie’s most successful until today. It peaked at no. 6 on the US album charts and became no. 1 in the UK. Among its hits are the songs “One Way or Another”, one of their signature songs, “Sunday Girl” (no. 1 in the UK) and “Heart of Glass”, one of their best songs which managed to top the charts in eight countries.

Blondie continued with another two very successful albums. 1979’s “Eat to the Beat” topped the US album charts again, containing the hits “Dreaming” and “Atomic” which managed to reach the first position in the UK charts. The next album “Autoamerican” came out in November of 1980 and became their fourth platinum album in a row in the UK (third in the USA). It included the cover of “The Tide Is High” and “Call Me” (theme to the movie “American Gigolo”) which both topped the US and UK charts, along with “Rapture” which also entered at the first place on the US charts. 1982’s album “The Hunter” wasn’t a commercial success and the group disbanded in November of that year, while Steil struggled with a very dangerous disease.

Harry and Stein who had recovered, along with Burke and Destri reformed the band in 1997, with the participation of Valentine. They followed a big tour and recorded the album “No Exit”, which came out in 1999. It reached the third position on the UK charts and no. 18 in the USA. In the following years, Blondie released another four studio albums, while the remaining original members are Harry, Stein and Burke. They have won two Grammy Awards, one “Grammy Hall of Fame” for “Heart of Glass” and they entered at the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” in 2016.
