Teddy Riley (full name Edward Theodore Riley), after the dissolution of "Guy", along with Chauncey "Black" Hannibal, formed Blackstreet in 1991. Firstly, they had chosen the name "Stonestreet", but in order to use Chauncey's nick "Black", they preferred " Blackstreet Featuring Teddy Riley". The first line-up was Chauncey Hannibal, Teddy Riley, Levi Little, and Joseph Stonestreet. Finally, Dave Hollister took Stonestreet's place, before the release of their first album.
Before their first album, "Blackstreet" in 1994, they released the single "Baby Be Mine", produced by Riley, for the soundtrack of "CB4", a comedy by Universal Pictures. "Blackstreet" had the single "Before I Let You Go" on the Top 10, while "Booti Call" reached the top 40. Their second album, "Another Level", including the new members Eric Williams and Mark Middleton (Hollister and Little had left the band) in 1996, was successful, especially after the release of "No Diggity", featuring Dr. Dre, which topped the USA charts. The album reached no. 3 on the album charts and became 4 times platinum in the USA.
Their third album "Finally", came out in 1999, while Terrell Phillips, took Middleton's place. Although it entered at the ninth position on the chart and contained the participation of great artists such as Janet Jackson and Stevie Wonder, the album was a commercial failure leading the group to disband. While Riley was dealing with the record of his first solo project, he approached Hannibal in order to reunite the "Another Level" line-up. With the return of Williams and Middleton, his solo work was used for Blackstreet's new album, "Level II", which came out in 2003.
In 2014, after failed efforts to work together as Blackstreet, since each member followed a solo career, Black, Little along with Williams and Middleton reunited, and one year later started a second tour in Australia.
